AxisPro in Glovebox Operations Target Users
MicroSupport
Published 15/05/2024
In recent years, the downsizing of precision products has led to a severe issue of defects caused by extremely fine foreign particles that can be introduced during manufacturing. Identifying and analyzing these minute foreign particles can help pinpoint their sources and pathways of contamination.
Information about four primary users operating within gloveboxes.
NIMS
Battery Research Platform, a world-class facility for next-generation battery R&D covering everything from battery cell assembly to materials analysis. Doing Potential difference test.
Focus: Advanced battery research and material development.
Iriyama/Yajima Lab – Nagoya University
Research Area: Solid-state batteries using oxides, a highly relevant and emerging field. Machining and pickup under non-exposed environment.
Application: Development of new materials for rechargeable batteries.
Tokyo Metropolitan University – Professor Munakata
Research Area: Development of rechargeable battery and FC components and internal analysis.
Focus: Fuel cell related development and the behavior of materials within batteries.
Kogakuin University
Focus: Research on improving the lifespan of new rechargeable (secondary) batteries.
Application: Utilizing gloveboxes to prevent humidity and oxygen exposure, thereby avoiding battery degradation during experiments.
AxisPro is highly effective for precise operations inside the glovebox. Without the AxisPro, researchers would face significant delays, as it’s nearly impossible to manipulate 10 µm particles with thick rubber gloves. Therefore, we recommend targeting the battery materials industry, as they likely encounter challenges with glovebox operations.
Key Considerations for Installing Equipment Inside a Glovebox
- Flange Availability: Confirm the number and type of flanges available. Note: Each AP unit requires two flanges (e.g.ISO160). Check with our engineers for any motorized accessories that may affect this.
- Size Compatibility: Ensure the APF unit fits within the glovebox, especially in height. Allow at least 5 cm of extra space above the APF.
- Glovebox Specifications: Verify the model and manufacturer details of the glovebox.
AxisPro for Forensics
- Threatening or Forged Documents: Localized analysis of ink and paper components (using FTIR).
- Criminal Search: Analysis of sand and soil found on the soles of shoes, fibers, glass fragments, and hair (microsampling for SEM, and FTIR micro-sampling, fiber cross-sectioning, DNA).
- Automobile Accidents: Analysis of paint chips collected at the scene (sample cutting and vehicle identification).
- Sexual Crimes: Detection of body fluids and sperm on clothing (DNA testing from micro-sampling).
